Austin Lunn’s journey carried Panopticon from the urban density of Louisville to the remote northern reaches of Minnesota. It is here, surrounded by a landscape both inspiring and endangered, that “Det hjemsøkte hjertet” took shape. The album follows an elder hermit in the final week of his life, interweaving childhood memories with a lament for an ecosystem transformed by modern encroachment.
Dense, atmospheric, and unmistakably cinematic, “Det hjemsøkte hjertet” (‘The Haunted Heart’) shifts from the icy aggression of earlier works into something richer and more saturated – a palette of purples and burning oranges fading into dusk. The folk instrumentation once associated with Panopticon has largely receded, giving way to tones reminiscent of Neil Young & Crazy Horse.
The metal foundation remains, but the record’s strength lies in composition rather than speed: layered arrangements, long-form dynamics, and a strong narrative undercurrent. A full orchestral presence runs throughout, with Charlie Anderson’s string performances adding both gravity and movement. Each song features a different guest vocalist – Aaron Charles (Falls Of Rauros, Rhun), Jan Evan Åsli (Vemod), and Jan 'Winterherz' Van Berlekom (Waldgeflüster) among them – introducing distinct colours without compromising cohesion.
At heart, “Det hjemsøkte hjertet” is an elegy: for wilderness altered beyond recognition, for childhood memories fading into myth, and for a life spent in quiet communion with a world slipping away. Atmospheric black metal, post-black metal, or somewhere between them – Panopticon remains defined not by genre, but by the land that shapes its voice.Tracklist:1 - Woodland Caribou2 - The Great Silence, Extinct3 - Blood and Fur Upon The Melting Snow4 - The White Cedars5 - A Culture Of Wilderness6 – Lyset (‘The Light’)7 - Ghost Eyes In The Fire Light
With “Laurentian Blue”, Panopticon ventures beyond the boundaries of metal to explore an entirely different emotional terrain. Though not the band’s first foray into acoustic territory – “The Scars of Man on the Once Nameless Wilderness, Part 2” (2018) charted similar ground – this album deepens the journey. Described by Austin Lunn as ‘Northwoods Americana’ or ‘outdoor country’, it offers a raw and intimate reflection on loss, change, and the quiet strength of human connection.

Written alongside “...And Again into the Light” (2021), this companion piece trades distortion for acoustic resonance – banjo, mandolin, resonator guitar, and twin violins painting a soundscape steeped in frost, memory, and resilience. While the palette is gentler, the themes remain no less weighty: the burden of regret, the passage of time, and the quiet act of holding on – not for oneself, but for those who remind us of our worth.

Inspired by songwriters like Blaze Foley and Townes Van Zandt, “Laurentian Blue” is a record of stark beauty and quiet defiance. It stands as a testament to Panopticon’s ever-evolving spirit – wherever the sound may go, the heart remains the same.
From the quiet desolation of earlier Iterum Nata now rises something heavier – more aggressive and defiant. With “Heartwood”, Finnish multi-instrumentalist Jesse Heikkinen (The Abbey, Henget, ex-Hexvessel) reshapes his progressive rock and neo-folk foundations through the crucible of metal, layering doom-laden riffs and blackened textures upon the project’s introspective core.

To give this vision its pulse, Heikkinen enlisted Ukrainian drummer Yurii Ciel (Stoned Jesus, Cailleach Calling, ex-White Ward), whose expressive performance transforms “Heartwood” into the most visceral Iterum Nata release to date. Together they carve a sound both expansive and immediate: progressive journeys steeped in folk atmosphere, driven by the weight and force of metal.
The record also features rare guest appearances: King Dude lends his commanding voice to “Forgiveness Undone”, Alexander Kuoppala (ex-Children of Bodom) unleashes a searing solo in “I Have Been Sacrificed”, and Sami Hynninen (Reverend Bizarre) delivers an unearthly vocal in “Only Ash and Bones Remain”.
“Heartwood” is an album hewn from fury yet tempered by revelation. Where past Iterum Nata releases drew from solitude and sorrow, here the wellspring is anger – but anger that points beyond itself, toward beauty, hope, and transcendence. It is a meditation on the spiritual war within the collective unconscious, channelled through music that flows between Anathema and My Dying Bride, Opeth and In the Woods…, Pink Floyd and Green Carnation.

"2025 reissue on multi-coloured double vinyl housed in a gatefold jacket.

First released in 2016, “Ruinen” marked a turning point for Waldgeflüster – a work where the band stepped beyond their black metal origins and embraced a broader emotional spectrum. Merging the raw power of atmospheric metal with the introspection of folk, doom, and post-metal, “Ruinen” offers a melancholic journey through autumnal landscapes and human fragility.

From the sweeping grandeur of “Trümmerfestung” to the haunting calm of “Ruinenfelder,” the album balances ferocity and tenderness with effortless grace. Echoes of Panopticon, Falls Of Rauros, and anathema can be heard, yet Waldgeflüster’s voice remains distinctly their own – poetic, unhurried, and deeply rooted in the Romantic spirit of their native Germany.

Nearly a decade later, “Ruinen” returns as one of the genre’s most poignant and enduring works – a testament to nature, nostalgia, and the quiet ruin of time itself.
Amber-hued and windswept, it was both a lament for change and a hymn of hope for the road ahead.
The album marked the closing chapter of the trilogy begun with “Kentucky” (2012) and carried forward with “Roads to the North” (2014). Here, Austin Lunn wove black metal with threads of Americana, folk, and post-rock into an immersive journey steeped in sadness, beauty, and transcendence. From the sweeping melancholy of “A Superior Lament” to the rustic violin of Johan Becker and the somber cello of Nostarion, “Autumn Eternal” is a meditation on loss, memory, and the passage of time.
A decade later, “Autumn Eternal” still glows with the same autumnal fire – a testament to its place as one of the most honest and affecting metal albums of its time.
If their debut opened the door to a world of superstition, “Avart” strides further inside, told not from the perspective of the wandering listener but through the eyes of the adversary.
Here dwell the outcasts and the damned: the murderer fated long before the act, the smith whose forge burns with otherworldly fire, the troll king ruling unseen, the man cursed to live and die as the ulv. The stories are told without compromise, the music captured in stark immediacy – recorded with almost no retakes, shaped collectively yet still guided by the band’s founding vision.
The sound shifts between the unruly and the enchanted – riffs caked in grime, melodies veiled in the haze of old superstition. Echoes of Arckanum, Taake, and Panphage linger, yet Änterbila occupy a realm entirely their own. Violins, bagpipes, and spectral female vocals – courtesy of Thomas von Wachenfeldt, Halte Galten, and Malin Runefelt – weave bright threads through the darkness.
What emerges is both vicious and spectral – the clash of steel in a torchlit hall, the weight of unseen eyes in a twilight forest. “Avart” doesn’t merely tell its tales; it traps you within them.Mixed by Lars Broddesson (ex-Marduk), mastered by Thomas von Wachenfeldt.
Brimming with meditative and wondrous tracks, the album marked one of Lustre’s most inspired works – shorter, vibrant compositions that moved beyond the project’s ambient roots to explore hopeful melodies and a more organic sound. Now re-issued on limited multi-colour vinyl, remastered by Tore Stjerna of Necromorbus Studio, “Blossom” stands as a testament to a magnificent era of growth and transformation.
Emerging from the icy expanse of Sudbury, Ontario, the duo’s self-titled fourth album is a meditation on transition: the slow dying of autumn, the silence of snowfall, and the liminal space between nature and civilisation.

Though rooted in atmospheric black metal, Finnr’s Cane forgo many of the genre’s conventions. There is no bass guitar; instead, low-end warmth and mournful resonance are carried by cello and keyboard, lending the music an organic, almost spectral quality. Rather than follow rigid structures, their songs unfold through improvisation, guided by mood and instinct.

Comparable in spirit to acts like Wolves in the Throne Room, Agalloch, and Fen, Finnr’s Cane tread a kindred path but speak in a voice entirely their own – one that has resonated since their 2010 debut, “Wanderlust”, and continued through critically acclaimed releases on Prophecy Productions and Frostscald Records. This latest work marks their first collaboration with Nordvis, a natural home for their singular vision.
With “Estradörerna”, Thomas von Wachenfeldt continues his lifelong mission to revitalise Sweden’s folk heritage. The album features music by three of Sweden’s most renowned and accomplished folk musicians – Jon-Erik Öst, Wiktor Öst, and Jon-Erik Hall – arranged for string trio. By reimagining these traditional melodies through the lens of chamber instrumentation, Wachenfeldt reveals an expressive depth that resonates across generations.

Rooted in tradition yet reinterpreted with precision, “Estradörerna” transforms old melodies into something both timeless and immediate. Wachenfeldt distils the essence of Sweden’s folk music – its longing, metaphysical qualities, and quiet introspection – into finely crafted compositions where every note carries the weight of centuries. Through the fusion of folk sensibility and chamber refinement, he captures not only the rhythms, joys, and sorrow of polskas, waltzes, and marches, but the very spirit of the time and space that shaped them.

A musician, researcher, and teacher, Wachenfeldt has dedicated his life to preserving and expanding Sweden’s musical traditions. From arranging Entombed’s “Clandestine” for symphony orchestra to his work in both traditional folk and extreme metal, his artistry defies categorisation. “Estradörerna” stands as a testament to his deep reverence for Sweden’s folk legacy – honouring the melodies of past masters with scholarly precision and emotive depth.
For over a decade, Nechochwen has bridged the gap between history and mythology, folklore and personal journey. With “spelewithiipi”, the West Virginian duo returns to their earliest roots – trading the weight of distortion for the delicate power of dark folk.

“spelewithiipi” is the sound of rivers that remember, of trails worn by centuries of footsteps, of stories whispered through leaves and stone. Nechochwen weaves rich acoustic instrumentation with an immersive sense of place, crafting melodies steeped in the Eastern Woodlands’ indigenous past. Echoes of Nest, Tenhi, and October Falls resonate throughout, but the heart of the album belongs to the Ohio River Valley – the spelewithiipi, the Big Turkey River – its wild beauty flowing through every note.

This is an album of patience and reverence, composed slowly over eleven years, gathering shape and meaning. It is a tribute to forgotten pathways and the wisdom they carry. From the spectral visions of “othaškwa’alowethi behme” to the contemplative stillness of “Precipice of Stone”, each piece is a portal – to memory, to mystery, to the primordial pulse of the land itself.
A forgotten tale, long buried beneath the snows of time, is about to be retold. “Midvintersagor” (‘Midwinter Sagas’) is the first music ever composed by Örnatorpet, a landmark in both personal and artistic discovery. Originally self-released in a small cassette run, this unaltered reissue allows listeners to experience the album exactly as it was conceived – pure, unrefined, and brimming with the wonder of creation.

At its core, “Midvintersagor” is a soundtrack to an unwritten legend. Each track weaves a narrative steeped in medieval fantasy, channelling the essence of forgotten folklore and the grandeur of winter’s stillness. Inspired by the interludes and atmospheric passages of 90s black metal, Örnatorpet sought to craft an instrumental world as evocative as the landscapes of his native Sweden.

Since its inception in 2018, Örnatorpet has become one of the foremost torchbearers of dungeon synth. With no formal musical training, he followed only instinct and inspiration, carving out a path that has since led him to the forefront of the genre. “Midvintersagor” is where that journey began – an unpolished gem gleaming with the spirit of discovery, now unearthed for a new audience to behold.

“Om jordens blod och urgravens grepp” (‘Of earth’s blood and the grave’s grasp’) is a powerful blend of black metal, folk, and atmospheric darkness, interwoven with classical and progressive influences. Traditional instruments such as the violin, viola, willow flute, and hand drum infuse the music with ancient, primal energy. The lyrics, crafted through subconscious writing, serve as a conduit to the mystical and otherworldly.

The album was engineered, produced, and mixed by Oraklet. Drums were recorded at Nordvis Ljudstudio, with the remaining tracks laid down at Studio HMH. Mastering was handled by Tore Stjerna at Necromorbus Studio.

Founded in 2015 in the northernmost part of Scandinavia, Häxkapell is the creation of Oraklet, who embarked on an inward journey to explore the philosophical, spiritual, and mystical aspects of existence. Following the 2016 demo “Om sanningen,” Häxkapell released their debut album, “Eldhymner”, in 2021.

On “Om jordens blod och urgravens grepp”, Häxkapell’s music evolves much like the earth itself: slowly, imperceptibly, yet ever-changing. It reflects the cycle of birth and bereavement, with death and life beginning anew as earthen folk melodies murmur ancient slumbers into dawn. Oraklet channels these profound truths into lyrics and music.
With a focus on melody and mood, the project’s twin-guitars narrate tales of darkness and wonder, bridging the gap between raw aggression and dreamlike states. This is not music for mere headbanging; it’s a deep, introspective journey through the shadowy corridors of existence, challenging the listener to ponder life’s greatest mysteries.
Snow-capped mountains and dense forests. Northern lights and cosmic vibrations. The images Dråpsnatt paint in your mind are vivid and stark, to which their now finally re-issued 2009 debut ""I denna skog"" stands testimony. Nine tracks of melodic blackened metal tell bleak yet grand tales of winter, death and nature in a most Scandinavian manner.

Expertly arranged keyboards enhance the atmosphere with both textural ambience as well as majestic melodies and riffs, and clean guitars and vocals bring a harmonic yet melancholic counterpart to the abrasive blasts and screams. Rocking riffs harken back to the primitive sounds of the 80's, while the more symphonic and melodious parts rival the work the likes of BORKNAGAR, ARCTURUS and TARTAROS made in the 90's.
This is music that will instantly transport you into the somber silence of a freezing midwinter night, breath steaming as you gaze between snowy treetops at the distant stars, and ponder about the cosmic secrets only death can reveal. ""I denna skog"" is a mystical and rare beast, give it a finger and it'll devour your soul - and you'll be grateful it did!
